New Year’s Resolutions – Make it a Great Year

Happy New Year 2014Cheers to the New Year Resolutions.  New Year’s Eve is always a bittersweet time for me. I’m never good at saying “goodbye” to anyone, even an old year. However, I do look forward to a fresh start with the New Year. So, how do I get through this annual event? New Year’s resolutions actually help me look forward to a great year.

Resolutions List 2014Now I understand that people joke about making and breaking their resolutions within a few days or weeks of the New Year. I think part of the reason is that we tend to set our expectations and goals so high without creating a workable game plan to follow through. For instance, if someone wants to lose 50 pounds but isn’t willing to cut out French fries or desserts, they will probably not be successful. It takes specific steps and a lifestyle change to really lose a significant amount of weight. Perhaps it is reachable goal if you start with small, for example instead of lose 50 lbs set for 5 lbs, so when you lost 5 lbs you feel confident that you can go for another 5 lbs.

I also know that some people are afraid to make resolutions. They prefer to not set any goals so they won’t look foolish or feel disappointed when they don’t reach them. I still feel that it’s better to have tried to reach a goal and failed than to not try at all. All successful people know that failing is part of the journey towards success. If you fail try, try again.

So take a step towards making 2014 a Great year for you. Go ahead and make those New Year’s resolutions. You’ll be glad that you have something to reach for in 2014!  I know I do.
