Indulge Your Senses during this holidays

Making-a-gingerbread-cookie with childrenI have discovered over the years that when I indulge my senses during the holidays, I create a vivid and memorable experience for my family. I like to plan for every aspect of sight, sound, smell, taste, and touch that I can. When I engage all of our senses, it seems to make the whole season more alive in our hearts and minds.

First, let’s start with sight! Take a look at what you currently have for your home decorations and furnishings for this holiday season. Every year, it’s exciting to pull out our favorite ornaments, lights, and other decorations. Next is sound! I’ve collected all kinds of Christmas music which fills our home during the holidays. Perhaps you play an instrument and can dust off your favorite Christmas carols. Even if you listen to the local radio station in your car, the sounds of the season are a great way to enjoy this time of year.

I always like to cook certain holiday favorites like pumpkin pie or cake to stimulate our sense of smell and taste. Touch is also an important sense from the prickly Christmas tree to the soft stockings that we hang by the fireplace.  By taking the time to indulge your senses in the holiday season, you can create your own vibrant memories for you and your family! With Christmas is right around the corner, it is perfect time to put it to test.
